Don’t Buy A Hot Tub From Home Depot

Crusing Through Pool Care The Wise Way

I read a blog post over at Olympic Hot Tub that got me thinking about how important it is to buy a hot tub from a local dealer. For example, I have one friend who bought his hot tub from Home Depot. He had a friend (me) who worked at a hot tub dealer, and instead of asking me for a “hook-up,” he just impulse bought a hot tub. I don’t blame him, he got a great price on it… $3,000. It had a lot of jets, 2 pumps and it was in a color he liked. Plus, he felt comfortable buying from a place he shops at for his lumber and wall fixtures.

He regrets ever making that purchase.

After his 1 year warranty, his circulation pump stop working. Home depot doesn’t sell parts to fix the spa and he was told to go to a spa dealer…hmmm. Because Home Depot got that spa made just for them, we had a hard time locating the pump for him (yes, he came to me for help).

After 6 months, his heater went, then his other pump. I will say that not all spas have this problem. The biggest issue was finding the parts!

Now, if he would have went to a reputable dealer (like me), he would have gotten the royal treatment. All we do is pools and spas. We take care of our customers. We offer better warranties, onsite service, PARTS!!!! and a trained retail staff to help you take care of your spa. These people know your spa inside and out. I dare you to walk into a Home Depot and ask how many ounces of shock to put in the spa you just bought. I DARE YOU!!!

All I’m saying is, if you are in the market for a hot tub, don’t take this story lightly. I’m sure plenty of hot tub dealers have a million of these. Big box retailers suck when it comes to pools and spas. Jack of all trades, master of NONE!

    yeah right!
These days, selection is even more crucial for shoppers, as mainstream frugality takes hold. This situation is opening the eyes of consumers to other outlets for purchasing high-end products like hot tubs & portable spas. Many consumers are getting more for their dollar by shopping at discount stores and wholesale chains. There are also many consumers that are taking it one step further by doing cost comparisons and purchasing products online. With disposable incomes decreasing, we want consumers to be able to purchase a luxury product such as a portable spa or hot tub. We are able to offer customers the most economical option during these lean times, without compromising their progressive business philosophy. While your standard retail store needs 40% to 45% margins just to stay afloat in the portable spa and hot tubs business, we can operate on margins as low as 30% through its factory direct e-commerce business model.
