As I sit and write this post in my office, I continually look out the window (which is slowing down my productivity). It’s such a nice day out. I live in New Jersey and today it’s a cool 75 degrees with not a cloud in the sky. You really couldn’t ask for a better day, in my humble opinion.
Believe it or not, I dislike warm weather. Which I know is weird being that I’m in the pool business, but today is the kind of weather I can really get use to.
It’s May! The month where the swimming pool industry puts their best foot forward, lines up the troops and awaits the arrival of the pool openers. It’s only a matter of time. The tricklers are starting to come (the smart people who open their pool early to beat the rush and get a jump on things). We await Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of summer and the weekend everyone decides it’s time to open the pool.
I wanted to write this post to let people know what they can do to get ready for the pool season. I have a feeling that because of our terrible winter, we are going to see a really hot summer, which is good for the pool business. With that said, here are just a few tips to help you get ready.
1. Make sure that cover is clean. Your pool cover is important and when it comes to opening your pool, it’s the first thing you do. You want to make sure it’s clean so that way when you do remove it, nothing falls in and makes your pool dirty. That would be bad.
2. Stock up! Go to the pool store now and get the chemicals and equipment you’ll need to get the pool started. Most companies have early buy specials not to mention you’ll beat the rush. You’ll have time to pick the brains of the pool experts, since they don’t have that many customers yet.
3. Pick a date, get some friends and have a party! Don’t just randomly wake up one day and say “I think I should open my pool today.” Go back to sleep and rethink this idea. You need to be prepared, you need to be ready. Pick a date and invite some people over to help. Make a day out of it. Once the pool is open then you and the people you invited can enjoy relaxing by the pool, even if it’s green. I did it last year and it was still enjoyable.
