I know what you’re thinking, “Memorial Day is NEXT weekend?” Even if you weren’t thinking it, it’s right around the corner and it’s time to get prepared. Most folks wait till the very last minute to open their pool, even if they are planning on having a pool party. I know this because I have witnessed it first hand. Memorial Day weekend (when I worked at a pool store) was the busiest weekend every single year, next to Fourth of July weekend. There are 3 reasons for this:
- Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer
- Everyone is off the following Monday (I know not EVERYONE, but you get the drift)
- Most pool stores have Memorial Day weekend sales
Besides the sales, Memorial Day weekend is the worse weekend to shop. Why not enjoy it and move up the shopping trip to the weekend before. I know I’ve said this before. However, that’s not why I’m writing this post. I am writing this post because you need to plan a killer pool party and I have to some killer tips to do so. So without further adieu:
Memorial Day Pool Party Tips
- Tell your guests to bring their own bathing suits and towels
- Get a menu planned. Keep it light too. Salads, veggies and dips, fruits, etc
- Clean your swimming pool. I shouldn’t have to tell you this folks
- Keep some extra suncreen and bug spray handy. Everyone will use it
- Set up tables and patio chairs everywhere you can. That way, everyone can have a seat
- Make sure you have plenty of plates, napkins and utensils. I’d hate to see you run out
- Supply some music. Break out that 1983 Boombox or that brand new outdoor Bose surround sound
