Let’s face it, Hayward pool products have been around for years and have been making quality products for above ground and inground swimming pools. They have been the industry standard long before I entered the pool industry and still remain to be the leader. One of the best parts about their product line up is their filter systems. So far the only company that I’ve seen who has come close to providing such a quality product is Pentair Pool Products, which rival with Hayward. But personally my heart will always be with Hayward.

If you are thinking about buying a new pool or already have a pool and looking to replace your filter system you need to keep Hayward in mind. One of the best things about Hayward is that you can pretty much find their products at every single pool store. Most pool stores, even if they don’t carry their products, they will still carry replacement parts because so many people own Hayward products. But let’s talk more about their filter systems.

Hayward Sand Filters

Sand filters are my personal favorite because of their ease of use and low maintenance. Fill it up with sand and let that sucker run. You only need to replace the sand every 3-5 years and sand filters have only a few parts that can actually go bad. If you are looking for a simple carefree filter, then a Hayward sand filter is definitely the way to go. The only problem with theses filters is that they do not have the cleaning power over other filters but you can’t beat the ease of owning one.

Hayward DE Filters

Hayward makes both inground and above ground DE (Diatomaceous Earth) filters. Their inground filters pretty much are built the same way as a classic inground filter is built. Using fins or grids to trap DE and filter. They are built the same way a Pentair FNS or before a Nautilus filter was built (which is a pretty standard inground DE filter).  However the Hayward E-Series above ground DE filters are a bit different. They are they only filter that uses Fingers instead of grids to trap DE. A bunch of long fingers hang inside the filter trapping DE and filtering your water. The beauty of this filter is you don’t have to backwash if you are having problems. The Hayward filter has a bump handle that when used shakes off the dirty DE and makes room for the some cleaner DE to filter your water. Generally you can do this three times before having to backwash but it makes it so much easier than backwashing all the time. Pretty cool.

Hayward Cartridge Filters

All cartridge filters work the same way and they are pretty effective. They are my least favorite of the Filter line-up however I am starting to come around. These filters use a big cartridge and no Sand or DE to filter, just the big cartridge. They are super easy to clean, just pull out the cartridge and rinse it down with your garden hose, that’s it, no backwashing.

So as you can see Hayward has a really good line up of filters to choose from, more than most companies. So if you can in the market for a pool filter, be sure to look into Hayward first and compare down. They are tough to beat.
