How To Repair A Leak In Your Above Ground Pool

If you have found a leak in your above ground pool and you don’t want to replace the whole liner then we can show you how to fix that leak. Believe it or not, fixing a leak in your swimming pool is very easy and it should be done right away because the whole can get bigger and you’ll stop losing a lot of wasted water.

All you need to do is go to any pool supply store and pick up a standard vinyl liner patch kit. You can also try to find these kits at Home Depot or any other hardware store. If you do, make sure that the patch kit your buying works underwater if you leak is in fact underwater. If you leak is above the water or you drained your pool to work on it, then you should be able to use any vinyl patch kit.

How To Patch A Leak In Your Pool

Make sure you follow this one step before using the kit. Most kits will come with a big clear vinyl patch or several small square patches. You always want to cut out your own patch in a big circle. Make it larger than the leak hole and the reason you want to make it a circle is because corners are easier to pull up. If your leak is on the bottom and your foot brushes by it, it could be ripped off by any of the corners and the same goes for if the leak is on the wall. Make making it a circle you can prevent that problem.

Once you have a circle, place the glue that comes in the kit on the back of the circle. Make sure you cover the entire area with the glue. If you are not underwater just simply apply the patch over the leak hole and apply pressure for about 2 minutes or so. If you leak is underwater then fold the patch in half so that the glue will come in little contact with water and open it up while applying it to the leak hole underwater. Again, apply pressure to the patch for about 2 minutes or so. I would hold it longer if it’s underwater. The longer you hold it there the more likely it will set up better. And that’s it, if the patch does come off over time you can always re-patch it.
