Why Your Eyes Burn Underwater
Now this is a common deception. Most folks believe that high amounts of chlorine will cause your eyes to burn. While that may be somewhat true in cases of really high chlorine levels it is usually not the case. The reason most people eyes burn in pool water is because of a low pH balance. Our eyes don’t burn when we cry because our tears have a neutral pH reading of 7.0. If the pH in your pool is lower it will cause a slight acidic burn on your eyes. Remember to always keep the pH and alkalinity in check for numberous reasons. One being the burning eye effect and possible pool part corrosion and an increase of chemical usage.
