Cleaning Your Hot Tub Filters
Your hot tub filters are one of the most important parts of your spa. It keeps the water clean and filters out any additional debris or natural substances. However these filters can be used up quickly and need to be taken care of. Here are a few tips to keep your filter looking and working like new.
1. Rinse your hot tub filters with clean hose or sink water every week.
This will help keep the debris from building up and the chemicals from eating away at your filter material. By doing this you will allow your hot tub filters to work more efficiently and last longer.
2. Every month remove the filters and use a standard filter cleaner or degreaser.
Depending on the brand you get attach a spray nozzle or pour into a bottle with a spray nozzle and spray the spa filters down with the cleaner and let them sit for about 15 minutes. This will allow the chemical to sink and do its job. Then with a hose rinse the filter thoroughly until all the soapy substance is gone. It’s important to rinse thoroughly and we mean it. If you didn’t rinse the filters very well and you put the filters back into your hot tub then chances are your spa will foam like crazy. So MAKE SURE YOUR RINSE THOROUGHLY. We can’t stress it enough.
3. About every 6 months to a year you should soak your spa filters over night in a muriatic acid solution or you can use the filter degreaser. Most pool companies will offer this service but if they don’t you can purchase muriatic acid at any pool store and dilute it with water. 1 part acid to 3 parts water and soak the filters overnight. The next day, give them a good rinse. 4. Some folks will often buy two sets of filters to switch off between the two sets. This is a good idea and may be right for you.
