Taking care of your hot tub is a lot like taking care of your car. It needs routine maintenance to keep it running like new.

1. Use tennis balls to attract oils in your water
Hot water extracts oils, lotions and soap from your body and clothes, and sometimes your filters won’t be able to get them out. The fibers on a tennis ball will aid in attracting these extractions and get them out of the hot tub.

Attract oils, lotions and soaps just using tennis balls.
2. Clean your hot tub cover with water and a little bleach
Mix bleach and water together in a bucket (10% bleach to 90% water) and use the solution to wipe down the inside of your hot tub cover to prevent a mildew smell from occurring.

3. Set a timer when filling your hot tub
You don’t want your hot tub to overflow when you’re filling it. Set a timer on your phone, or use a simple kitchen timer, to give you a heads up to check on how your hot tub is filling up.

4. Take advantage of off-peak hours to run your hot tub
Call your electric provider and ask when the best time to run your hot tub is. Running your hot tub in the middle of the night (when everyone is asleep) could save you money.
5. Use white vinegar to clean your hot tub
Whether your doing a drain and refill or wiping down a scum line, you can dip a soft sponge in a little white vinegar to clean the shell and jets.

6. Turn off air valves when heating or adding chemicals
Doing this will allow your hot tub to heat up faster and chemicals to mix into the water quicker.

7. Test your water every week!
Use test strips every week to make sure all the chemicals in your hot tub are at the proper levels.

8. Drain and clean your hot tub every 3-4 months

9. Clean your hot tub filters weekly
Just like testing, you should remove your filters and rinse them down with a high-pressure garden hose weekly. You should also clean them every month with a filter cleaner designed for hot tub filters.

10. Keep chemicals on hand
You should keep a good supply of the following chemicals in case you need to use them:
- pH Increaser
- pH Decreaser
- Alkalinity Increaser
- Sanitizer (chlorine or bromine or whatever sanitizer you use)
- Non-chlorine shock
- Test strips
