How To Use A Pool Cover Pump

During the winter months your swimming pool cover can collect a lot of rainwater and water from melted snow. That is why it is important to drain your cover periodically to keep your cover lasting longer and to avoid damaging the walls of your pool or coping.

Pool cover pumps are an easy alternative to a manual siphon to drain the water off your winter cover that has collected from rainfall and snow melt. Using just a hose to siphon can be a slow process, not to mention extremely gross if you use your mouth to start the siphon. Get a electric or foot cover pump to make this process less painful.

1. Attach a garden hose to the pump submerge it into a deep puddle on top of the cover.

2. Plug in the pump and watch as the water is siphoned off the cover quickly. The weight of the pump should draw more water towards it.

3. Keep an eye on it and move around the pump as needed to make sure you get all of the water off the cover or as much as you possibly can.

Once you have gotten all the water off, unplug the pump and let the cover dry. Hopefully you will have a couple days with no rain or snow. By then the leaves can dry and you can use a broom to get the leaves off the cover which is also a step you should take in caring for you pool cover during the winter.
