10 Best Robotic Pool Cleaners

When it comes to cleaning your swimming pool, the best and most efficient tool in your arsenal is a pool cleaner. But not just any pool cleaner: a robotic pool cleaner!

Best Robotic Pool Cleaners

There are 3 types of automatic pool cleaners you can choose from: suction-side, pressure-side, and robotic. However, robotic pool cleaners offer the best of all these types of cleaners combined. They run on electricity, so you don’t have to run your filter while it’s cleaning, and they use the power of suction (rather than water pressure) to clean up dirt and debris on the bottom of your pool.

So without further ado, here is what I think are the best of the best when it comes to robotic pool cleaning…

We recently gave a very positive review for this cleaner and awarded it with the Swim University Smart Buy Seal.

The two filters are accessible from the top and it uses a nylon fine filter that can filter down to two microns (as good as a pool sand filter).. Hi, we are new owners of the above ground pool with deep end. We would like to get robotic cleaner, but the one I got today did very bad job. Aquabot pool rover hybrid. It was stuck in the deep end. Deep end is not too steep, but still robot can’t get out. And it was doing very bad job on picking up the sand. Could I use and in ground robotic cleaner for my above the ground pool ? I think it would to better job maneuvering on the bottom.

  • Matt Giovanisci

Yes, you can use an inground cleaner. However, I would contact Aquabot because it could just be a calibration issue.

  • Michael Weening

Hi, thanks for the post. What I am confused on is what is the difference between the robotic cleaners and the polaris booster based cleaner? Have you written an article on the difference?

  • Matt Giovanisci

Polaris Booster cleaners use water pressure from your filter system and requires installation of a second pump. Robotic cleaners are self-contained pool cleaners that require NO professional installation.

  • Barbara Holtz Cafaro

What do you think of cartridge vs bag in robo vac?

  • Scott Renegar

My pool is surrounded my trees. Thins has my pool full of leaves. Which cleaner would you recommend? I currently have the MX8, but it’s constantly getting jammed up, and with only one skimmer, I am in a constant battle between cleaning the bottom and the top.

  • Matt Giovanisci

    The first cleaner, by far!

  • Ashish Raghute

The #1 reviewed product has 35% customers giving it a one star on the scale of five on Amazon.

  • Matt Giovanisci

That’s true. I can’t speak for them, but I’ve tried it myself and I really liked it. Also, I’ve compared it to a whole lot of other cleaners.

  • Ernie

The Aquabot Breeze XLS was $449 thru your site 3 days ago, Today it is $599. Is there a promo code or something to use for the reduced price?

  • Matt Giovanisci

It’s $388 right now. All of these prices are pulled in from Amazon in real time.

  • Mom Delmar

We have a 26 year old inground gunite pool with a turbo system. Will the Aquabot Breeze XLS have a problem with the turbo heads that are each an inch above the bottom of the pool?
Ps. The turbo system doesn’t work very well. We need a robotic cleaner as our skimmer line has shrunk inside and doesnt porduce enough pressure for our regular vacuum

  • Matt Giovanisci

Yea it should work just fine.

  • Wayne Davies

Hi Matt, What’s the spares situation like with the Aquabot Breeze. I’m thinking of buying one of your units to bring to Australia. Do you see any issues with the sourcing of spares via Swim University in the foreseeable future? Regards, Wayne

  • Matt Giovanisci

    Like, spare parts?

  • The Pool Rover S2-40 is cheaper than the other. Do you have any videos on how it will perform?

  • Matt Giovanisci

    Sorry I don’t yet :-(

  • Keith

I have a Swimex Triton Swim Spa at 18.8 X 7.7 and need a compatible robotic pool vacuum. Will one of these work on my pool or is it too small?

  • Matt Giovanisci

    It would be too small.

  • Janis Cuthbertson

more above ground pool articles please

  • Barry White

Matt, I desperately need a way to clean a constant depth shelf at one end of my pool that the polaris pressure cleaner won’t come near. It’s about 8-9.5 inches in depth (depending on water level). Will any of these get up there and do the job? I am tired of brushing that thing! Thanks for your help.

  • Matt Giovanisci

    Yes they will.

  • Jane

Hi. We live in FL and have a 52′ x 6′ (approx.) lap pool that is caged. The electrical outlet is 79″ from the edge of the pool and approximately in the middle of the pool area. Can you recommend an appropriate automatic pool cleaner? Thanks for your help!!

  • Stephanie Mangano

I bought a house with a 30year old pool that we have just remodeled. It has an old Polaris that has a hook-up on the side of the pool. At my last house I put in a pool with a Creepy Krawly and the hook up is much different on the Polaris because the hose is much smaller in diameter. Will the Aquabot you like fit in the Polaris hook-up

  • Matt Giovanisci

No. An aquabot is it’s own cleaner. No hookup involved. It’s way better. You just plug it into an outlet and let it do its thing. You don’t even need to run your filter system. Check it: https://www.swimuniversity.com/aquabot-classic-review/

  • Stephanie Mangano

Thanks, Matt. I’ll have to look into it!
